FRUGAL MEALS

Today I thought I would write about all those frugal meals we make when money starts getting tight. These are the meals that you always keep ingredients for in your pantry and freezer. I have several meals I turn to when either we are short on money or just don’t want to go food shopping.stockpile

My Top Turn-To Meals:

  1. Spaghetti. Okay, this is a given. But I ALWAYS have the ingredients for this. Costs about $4.
  2. Tuna Noodle Casserole. If I add cheese/cracker topping, this meal still costs less than $5.
  3. Chili. So delicious and filling, and it’s pretty cheap. I have to make a double batch and it still costs  less than $7.
  4. Homemade Macaroni and Cheese. I put cooked chopped up chicken and broccoli in it a full meal. I always make a double batch and put the extra in the freezer for one of those busy days. Even with the chicken and broccoli, one batch (feeds 5 of us with leftovers) costs about $6.
  5. Mexican Chicken and Rice .  Quick, easy and pretty darn cheap. I add a little more salsa in mine than what the recipe calls for. Costs about $4.
